ReplyDeleteNo he was only a year old when the deceleration of Independence was written, but he did have a impact on the civil war.

ReplyDeleteIt interesting to see how Fulton contributed to early America while not actually fighting in the Revolutionary. If his inventions and ideas, like the steamboat, were used in the war, I believe that the Patriots would have dominated the war (especially on the water.)
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that Fulton's work came later -- after the Revolution. In fact one could say he helped father the Industrial Revolution, which affected the country just as much.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what would have happened if he continued working on aquatic weaponry.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else would have designed the steamboat. There were many people trying to do it, including his partner Robert Livingston. Also, his designs for submarines and water weaponry were not very good and would have helped no one.
DeleteI find it interesting that sometimes people have an idea for an invention long before there is the technology to make it possible. So Fulton is dreaming of submarines and torpedoes long before they come to pass. Leonardo DaVinci is dreaming of flying machines ....
ReplyDeleteWhen Fulton created his idea for a steamboat, did others support him? Or was he alone in his endeavour s?
